My interest in pottery began 30 years ago when I entered college for a fine arts education and fell through the pottery studio door and never left. With the exception of the time I spent in school I am self taught. In the intervening years I have raised a family of four children along with my husband and had two other careers. I was manufacturer’s rep, and a designer for Edward Fields Custom Carpets while always maintaining a pottery studio at my home.
In 2003 I decided that I wanted to go back to pottery full time and I had moved to a home that allowed me to have a pottery studio big enough to give me the freedom to go in any direction I choose.
To me pottery is addicting and I am in my studio every day. I am always looking and searching for new ideas and ways of extending myself through clay.
Pottery has become a canvas for me to express myself. The majority of my pottery will have some decorative accent on the outside of the pieces from simple etched lines to elaborate carvings that can take up to 30 hours or more. I use stoneware and porcelain clay making functional, decorative, functional decorative and whimsical pieces.

ANNA DOLVIN POTTERY IS EITHER WHEEL THROWN AND OR HANDBUILT USING STONEWARE CLAY OR PORCELAIN, STUDIO GLAZES AND FIRED TO CONE 6 OXIDATION.THE PIECES ARE HAND CARVED. I GET MY IDEAS FROM ANCIENT ART, PETROGLYPHS, NATURE, TO NAME A FEW, AND THEN ADAPT THE IDEAS TO MY STYLE. I OFTEN COMBINE IDEAS FROM MANY DIFFERENT PLACES AND TIMES TO MAKE SOMETHING THAT PLEASES ME AND YOU. IN MOST CASES I GO FROM MY IDEAS DIRECTLY TO THE POT AND ETCH THE DESIGN AND DO ANY ADJUSTING NECESSARY THEN START CARVING. THERE IS ALWAYS AJUSTING DONE THROUGHOUT THE CARVING PROCESS. I SPEND AS MUCH AS 30 HOURS AND MORE JUST TO FINISH THE CARVING. THE DESIGNS ARE CONTINUOUS AROUND THE VESSELS, TELLING A STORY OR REPEATING A DESIGN.
